The City of Wilmer will be hosting this year's "Pioneer Day's Festival" on October 15th, 16th and 17th. This year's festival has been moved to Dal Port Parkway, a new four lane lighted concrete road that runs between I-45 service road and Millers Ferry. Park Board President, John Eggen said "We were just out of space at the old location. We have plenty of room for expansion and we don't have to worry about rain.

This year we have an expanded carnival including adult, teen, and kiddie rides. The midway will also feature food and game booths. Unlimited ride armbands are available for $20.00 per day. (Thursday night preview is $15.00 with advance purchase at the library.) Standard tickets are $1.00 with rides costing from 1 - 4 tickets each. Opening Ceremonies will begin at 6pm on Friday the 15th followed by a concert and dance at 7pm at the main stage. Performing will be "Los Outlaws."

Saturday begins with a parade that starts at the Adams street ballpark and travel down Kissel/College Streets to Beltline Rd and ends up at City Hall. We will include a senior citizen best decorated scooter award along with the cutest dog award. Chili Cook-off registration begins at 9am with the cooking starting at 11am. Baked fruit pie competition turn-in will be at the Community Center at noon. 2pm will begin our Hot Dog Eating Contest with trophies and cash prizes awarded. This is limited to the first 20 people and a standby list of 10. Entertainment begins at the main stage at 3pm with "Double 00 Buck". Country with a kick!
Chili judging begins at 4pm with the winners of both the Chili Cook-Off and Pie Baking announced about 5pm. The evening's entertainment features the "222 Band" and street dancing at the main stage at 7pm.

New this year, our gates will open at noon on Sunday. The afternoon begins with a concert at 2pm. A Tamale Eating Contest with trophies and cash prizes awarded will start at 5pm. This is limited to the first 20 people and a standby list of 10 also. Closing ceremonies are at 6:45pm, followed by a concert at 7pm.

Rules and preregistration forms for any of the events or for vendors are available at the Wilmer Public Library anytime during normal business hours. Preregistration is recommended as there are limited entries in some events. Come out and help make this our best Pioneer Days yet.
