wow. what a nicely intense paper. i do hope to see how this all unfolds over the next 6 months. much can and should happen if the citizens of wilmer stnad up for what they believe in -- whether they are for or against the current local politics and apparent agendas of our city government.

On a whole this letter is very good and someone went to a lot of trouble to uncover the truth. There is one part that is as far from the truth as it can get. Before I was elected Mayor of Wilmer, Hudson had put Birdwell on the agenda for firing so many times that it was begining to be a joke. He claimed that she was incompetent for not paying the employee payrole taxes. When she was finally fired the vote was Hudson-yes, Martinez- yes,Petton-obstained, Wickliffe-no, Lange-no. This ment that as the Mayor I would break the tie. After several months of reviewing her work ethics and all the money that she was costing the city, in late fees, not paying into retirement, comptroller not being paid, hundreds of dollars being paid for insurance for employees that no longer worked for the city, and the huge fine ($500,000) to IRS for penilties and interest, I broke the tie and voted to fire her. She was gone for about a year, before Hudson got the vote to bring her back. Since I was a participant in this firing, if she filed a lawsuit against the city and won, I would have known about it, since this lawsuit would have included me as a Defendant. She NEVER sued the city and she has no judgement that would bankrupt the city. What she did get, was a check for back pay. She was given all of her sick time back, she received ALL of her vacation time. Not to mention that while she was employed by the City she collected 2-4 checks a month as payment. This was over and above her regular salary. SWEET JOB. GREAT BENIFITS.

Linda Root is a vendictive person that needs to leave Wilmer alone. She did nothing for this town but bring it down. She is holding a grudge for losing an election 4 years ago. All she does is preach negitivity. Nothing positive did she do anything besides smoke pot while she was the mayor.

If a Mayor had any type of common sense whatsoever about them, they would understand that a Mayor can not vote to break a tie or otherwise where employees are concerned. The "check" Root is referring to is the vacation pay that was due Ms. Birdwell by law after six days from separated service, although it only took nine months to receive the money. Which was also investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), for those like root that do not understand abreviations. Also, under state law, no one can terminate an appointed officer of the city (i.e., City Secretary, Police Chief, etc.) without a 4 person vote (2/3 of the council), except for cause and cause you don't like the person is not enough cause. The rest of her blogs are as usual root hog wash.

There is a reason why "FORMER Mayor Root" is FORMER. It means NO LONGER here. Still a little bitter about losing out to CURRENT Mayor Hudson? Aren't there some politics in Red Oak that you can get involved in, Linda? Ms. Birdwell is one of the few people that actually cares about the best interests of The City of Wilmer, it's citizens and employees.
Everyone needs to wake up and realize that this is not a game. People's livelihoods are a stake.

People's livelyhoods ARE at stake and it certainly IS a game - played with the taxpayer's money. Public servants should be held to a higher standard than the private citizens whose taxes pay the salaries - not get special privileges at public expense.

Maybe when Linda Root comes out of her halucinagenic stuper she will realize this is Wilmer, not Red Oak and go HOME! Better yet, take I-40 or I-20 West and stay there, do not stop until you hit the ocean! Good Ridance!

To the anonymous feed back all I can say that this is typical Wilmer Politics. They attach on a personal level. LOL And avoid the issues. First I was a drunk now I am a potting smoking Mayor LOL. They do this to anyone that opposes them, because they are trying to deflect from the issues that plague Wilmer, instead of dealing with the real problems....Their BAD decisions.....
FBI, LOL the only thing they investigated was Birdwell herself LOL FOR ISSUING HERSELF 6-8 PAYCHECKS A MONTH, for over a year. Lets see, she cost the City of Wilmer $500,000 in fines and penalties to the IRS, not to mention the over $450,000 that the city had to pay for back employee taxes, she paid insurance premiums for employees who no longer worked for the city. $12,000. She cost us over $200 per month just in late fees for utilities. She failed to pay the comptroller and she failed to pay the employees retirement for months. Now she was fired for not doing her job and nothing to do with personalities. Then lets not forget the extra pay checks that she issued herself. Signed by her and she used a stamp for Lowe. This person claimed that the city owed her back vacation pay. The independent bookkeepers had to FIRST straighten out the books, then found that Ms. Birdwell had been collecting her vacation pay for months. But, not to worry Petton and Hudson cut her a check for over $3700.00 for a weeks pay. NICE HUH!!!Just ask yourselves, "Would the FBI get involved in a vacation pay dispute"? I think they really get involved in Federal Issues. Not a city secretary's claim she was owed back vacation pay. As to the Mayor not breaking a tie or grounds for the council to fire Birdwell, let me direct you to the Texas Local Government Codes. LOL Bitter about losing to HUDSON LOL I didn't lose to him, he just brought in more illegal votes, just so that he could win. LOL I guess he was really afraid of losing, so he fought dirty, as always. I stay involved in Wilmer because I own property in Wilmer. I have a vested interest and we have even talked about my moving back. So get ready I may be back and run for Mayor again. Wilmer is a wonderful city, the problem is the people who sit on the council or who are employed by the City are corrupt. From the top to the bottom. And why would I come back to Wilmer???? Because I can. Unlike HUDSON who does NOT live there. I don't dwell on the negative, I'm positive that Hudson doesn't live here. The people that work for the city should be held accountable, a weeks pay for a weeks work. With high paychecks and paid vacations, with high insurance premiums and money for retirement, some should be watching the hen house. These employees get paid and some (not all) get paid for doing NOTHING. Or for doing it in-competent. I never took a dime from any investor, nor did I use my position to employ ANY ONE who supported me. Can't say that about this group. Lets see, Hudson has promised the city admin position, parks and rec position, new building inspector and a new Chief of Police. I never made a dime of the backs of the Wilmer citizens like Hudson did. I did bring new homes for our citizens (at no cost) new roads, new water tower (which this council rejected) saved the city thousands of dollars in late fees and mismanagement of city funds, received grant money for computers in our patrol cars, two new police cars. Stared the ball rolling on all the new parks. Unlike this council, who allowed the railroad to totally destroy Adams park. Never allowed the Lions land to become a landfill, when it was dedicated to the youth of Wilmer, not to mention the opening of the Family Dollar store. Well, I'm tired now, your comments bore me. Always Lie Lie Lie. That's their MOTTO, they live and die by it. Hire behind your anonymity all you want. The truth is you have NOTHING to support pot smoking or alchohl use as claimed by Lange and her supporters. There is documentation to support my claims and all you have is your twisted mind and lies that you spread as truth. This is the same thing every election year. Same old, Same old...I know that in years past this type of slander has been successful for you, but maybe this year citizens of Wilmer will have their voices heard above your lies.

Wake up nobody is playing the game but Linda Root. All she does is run around and trash talk everybody. People are tired of it. She is a two face who couldn't tell the truth if it slapped her in the face.

Well I see Linda's fingers still work on a keyboard, but all we read is blah, blah, blah. Birdwell was not a salaried employee and was being paid OVERTIME! Let's not forget the $20,000 legal bill Root ran up trying to get the FBI to investigate, not to mention that at a council meeting ON TAPE, Root stated "I Lied, so what!" So, by her own omission she is a LIAR!

Someone needs to break the news to Linda Root that Crystol Birdwell is not running for office!
