Postcard from the City - the only choices?

We'd like to share how one Reader responds to the City's recent "survey" postcard.
Good thing we don't 'just trash the comments' here at WPC.

I received a survey recently. I did not respond. I was asked to rate the
following in preferential order:
Pardon me, but most of the "Seniors" I know have more sense than to send
something like this out.
I can't help but ask myself who the witless wonder was that wasted postage
on it.

Here is what a person who really cares about Wilmer should respond!

_____ Police, Firemen and Paramedic salaries and equipment. THIS SHOULD BE A
GIVEN PRIORITY NOT A RATED CHOICE.

_____ Code Enforcement. THIS SHOULD BE A GIVEN PRIORITY NOT A RATED CHOICE.

_____ Parks and Recreation. THIS SHOULD BE A GIVEN PRIORITY NOT A RATED
CHOICE. That is, if and only if, the City survives and it encourages local
residential growth.

_____Library. ibid. That means same as the above.

There were not enough "others".

_____Other: Residential Zoning for single family housing so the city can
grow.

_____Other. Improved Water delivery so the above can occur.

_____Other. Retail development with a real honest to god grocery store
(although right now, I could stand a good stiff drink after looking at this post
card for two weeks. When did you say I could buy booze at the gas stations.
Buying booze at the gas stations? Does anyone see anything worrisome about
that concept?)

_____Other. Have lessons at the Library on Local Government and how it is
actually supposed to function. See Chapters 6 and 7 of the Local Government
Code. This site has a link to it. Does anyone read in this City? Oh, that's
right the Library has limited hours and the schools were shut down.

_____Other. Real representative local government. One that is reasonably
free of nepotism. Look it up. Despotism is the local form of government.

_____Other. To remain an incorporated city.

_____Other. To vote to be unincorporated and become the Dallas County
Industrial District with out local citizens. The Mayor is not local; so why
should any of us live here?

Ah! Now we have some things to think about and to rate in order of
preference.

This is real damned scary that the citizens would start considering closing the City of Wilmer. With all the good we have here, all that we have been through all these years to let a crazy Palmer family close us down? Not on your life. RID WILMER OF HUDSONS ONCE AND FOR ALL!! Go Home Hudsons. Go Home to Palmer. You took the money and ran, stay there! Wilmer was not good enough for you once you had your $700,000.00. No need coming back now and pretending you care when you do not even live here anymore. We are not stupid Don. GO HOME.

Boo who, let me play the smallest violin for you.

Have a great day!

To the last Anonymous: See you don't know how to read. You were asked to see the stupidity in being asked to rate services that should be the obligation of the City to provide. They are services and should not be subject to a preferential rating as to thier importance. You made my point. I am going to revise my editorial and see if the editor will relace it with one that perhaps even the vaguest of you can understand.

Crazy? If he got $700,000 for a run down trailer house and 10 acres of land, that sounds pretty smart to me. The more you run hin down the more I think you are afraid of the good he might be doing. there are alot worst people in Wilmer than Hudson. Just look at the fat red head at city hall.Look at old man Lowe he is lost without Wicklife

Anonymous said...

Hey Joe I thought you said your sight was to give a voice to the citizens not to let them call people names. This is nothing more than the wilmer enquirer. If you have a point there is always a way to get it accross without name calling.

Anonymous said...

Fat red-head at city hall?

First of all, there are two of them. Be specific. No wait, nevermind, what's the difference.

Second, the most professional employee that worked in city hall in the last 10 years resigned recently because she had had enough of the krap. Good for her, she is better off now. Her life just took a turn in the right direction. She will be missed.

As for the rest of the City Hall crew, they asked for what they have now and now they have what they asked for. Reminds me of the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for...".

NOTHING IN WILMER HAS CHANGED!! So to the people that are no longer in the Wilmer Employment sesspool, I guess you weren't the problem after all. Have a great life and count your blessings. The show must go on.

Anonymous said...

So now you've resorted to calling people fat? That's a sure sign or ignorance, when you have to stoop so low. Whether we like these people or not, it accomplishes nothing when the name calling starts. Come on, Joe, can't you publish comments that actually mean something? How about something POSITIVE? That "red head" almost single handedly pulls together Pioneer days, works her tail off at Christmas for the needy families and a LOT more that you all have no clue about.

Hey Folks Thanks For YOUR Comments - Please remember the guidelines we published some time back Click Here to Review Guidelines - I may have been a bit lax in administering them judging from your comments about your other commenters.

All my comments are signed and published - anyone can contribute anonymously. Being civil is optional according to the guidelines. I disclaim all responsibility for the content of reader submitted comments in those guidelines.

And to Mrs. Smith - these aren't my words! I can't edit "comments that actually mean something" without stepping on the author's expression. For POSITIVE reporting, why not write something for publication - I've been asking around for a positive story for quite a while - got any?

The capability does not exist for me to edit your comments - I can only publish or reject an entire post. Sorry if the "f-word" offended anyone personally - I just accept it and go on.

Joe your sight gives those that are frustrated with city hall a place to vent. I have read very little responses here that address the issues presented. There are those that do try very hard to stay on point. As far as the name calling, I agree with Ms. Smith, those that have nothing smart to say resort to name calling. Does anyone know who the employee is that quit? And in response to the one who wrote about the $700,000 for a run down trailer, your right that is not so crazy, but when you are supposed to be a representative of the city it sure seems like he sold the city out for a buck. No problem, but why is he still here? Becasue there is more money for him to make? Ego? Just thought I'd ask. Usually, honest people sell their homes, move, but so not run for office in a city they don't live in. Unless there is something more to be gained in $$$$$. While I am on the subject, won't someone list the good things this person and council have achived in the 15+ years they have been on the bench?
Maybe that is the problem most of your bloggers have with this person. I have read that we should give him a chance, what I don't understand is, "hasn't he had enough years to make a differance"?
First as a Council member then as the Mayor. The same problems exist now as they did then, only worse.

Would some one address the Post Card Issues...that article does not call anyone any names. Except for the person who thinks that the Police Dept, Fire Dept, Paramedics, Library, and Parks are optional services a city should provide. OR, do all of you think these are truly preferential options to rate as important or not.

Anonymous said...

I don't know if I am the person that was spoken about in previous comments, but July 24th I resigned from the Accounts Payable position to stay at home with my kids.

Anonymous said...

I am not sure that they are talking about you, unless you have been working for the city for ten years. As for the city secretary, oh I get it now, she was so busy with the Pioneer days, she forgot to pay the Comptroller. Oh my, I really feel bad, she was doing Christmas charity and forgot to pay the employees TMRS. How foolish of me not to have seen this before. She has been so busy with charity work, that she couldn't get the things done she is paid to do. I now see that it is not her fault that she has cost the city thousands of dollars in late fees and just simple foolishness, she was busy with doing good things and getting paid for it. The things she does for charity should not be paid for by tax dollars. Pioneer days is private, so you get it? Christmas charity is private, do you get it? Well, I get it and every citizen of Wilmer should get it.

Anonymous said...

I still don't get it. Could you with your infinate wisdom explain it a little better? Maybe you could help me be as cool and sarcastic as you. That would make me a better person.

Anonymous said...

First of all I was not talking about the city secretary in regards to pioneer days or christmas. So, rest assured that she didn't waste tax payer money on charity events. Now, on to more important issues, all of the things listd on the post card are things that are city services that should all be preferential, but I get what the point is. Do you think that the fire and police departments are understaffed and need better equipment? Yes. Do you want a bigger selection at the library? Yes. Do you want more places for your kids to play? Yes. Do you want the water issues addressed? Yes. But, where to start? I hope that all of these issues are addressed swiftly so that all the residents of Wilmer have what they need, big business comes to town AND new housing pops up everyday, honestly. There's just a ton of he said she said BS on this blog (not blaming Joe) but people should really get all the facts together before just blasting each other. Is some of this stuff on here true? Sure it is, I saw it myself. Is some of this stuff outright goofy? Yep! Who the hell cares how much done made selling his property? I WISH I could get a deal like that.I know, I know, I should go to Oprah.
Have a great day.

First, Ernest Terry, one of wilmer's finest and a tenure of 18 years is the person that "resigned" after being no billed by the grand jury. Wilmer lost one of the finest officers it may ever have. Ernie was compassionate and passive, made it through how many mayors and councils and this one just chose to toss him to the wolves, Council and Mayor you really made this city proud with that one!
Second, this is not being written on city time or a city computer.
Third, the last comptroller check that was late was on Mayor Linda Roots watch with her goofball city secretary that didn't know the difference between quarterly and monthly reports, not this secretary, she was illegally fired during that tenure. Take that whining somewhere else.
Third, about those fat redheads in city hall, If you are not afraid to come forward and quit blogging, I'm sure they both would be willing to meet you in the middle of the street or a dark alley to straighten out your frustrations, of course, not on city time. Who knows, it could be another good fund raiser for the city to make more money! LOL

Anonymous said...

You talk of Ernest Terry being one of Wilmers finest, Why was he no billed in front of the Grand Jury? You speak of compassion, Why did he hit his wife? The only reason he was no billed is because his wife wouldn't testify against him. So do you think that maybe he just might have resigned to save face? I do believe it is against the law to beat your spouce. I truely hope that he wasn't one of wilmers finest, because if he was your in a lot of trouble. SO STOP BLAMING HUDSON FOR THINGS HE DID NOT DO!!!

WE ARE IN A LOT OF TROUBLE HERE. Thank you for noticing (at last)!

Anonymous said...

Ernest Terry was no billed because his wife did not want to perjure herself is why she refused to testify against her husband! A committee of one is not good judgement on anyones back. And Wilmer does have some ethical police officers, albiet some are paranoid and some are just plain lazy, then there are some that just love the internet! NO ONE IS BLAMING HUDSON, HE NEVER ALLOWED A VOTE, SO THEREFORE WE CAN NOT BLAME THE DUMB COUNCIL, IF IT IS ON THE AGENDA IT MUST BE ADDRESSED!

Anonymous said...

Being hit in the head when a phone is jerked out of your hand is not wife beating dumba@s!

Anonymous said...

First of all, Corporal Terry is one of the most dedicated, professional officers this city has had under it's employ, without a single blemish in his record. He took any assignment without arguement or protest, he conducted his duties with total care and regard for others around him, he upheld his oath and he protected the residents of Wilmer as directed under the laws of the United States, the State of Texas and the ordinances of the City of Wilmer.

Secondly, a Grand Jury "no-bill" means that their was not enough evidence to proceed to trial. "Not enough evidence" means unless their is more to come later, IT IS OVER!

Thirdly, remember that a resignation in lieu of "being dragged through the mud" is not a resignation, it is a threat.

Wells, Hudson and Lange threaten those they no longer want, in their attempt to run them off so that they can keep their campaign promise of no employee firings. Corporal Terry is just like you, me and everyone else, he is just trying to make a living for himself and his family.

Are you next? Is your neighbor, your fellow employee? What will happen to their family when they are fired? Should we ask Hudson, Lange and Wells? Has anyone warned these two new police officers wanting to go to work in Wilmer and for Hudson, Lange and Wells that the price is too high for the pay?

Let's remember something folks, how would you like it if you worked under constant threats and intimidation in your work place, wondering if you are next to be fired at any time without any warning? It is employee harassment and not the first or last time that Hudson, Lange and Wells will use it.

Anonymous said...

I never said that he beat his wife, I did say that he hit her. If it were an accident then why were the police called? Why did it go to the Grand Jury? And, I really don't care, I don't think that Hudson should be blamed for him resigning, just maybe ET did it to keep his career as a police officer, to say that you resigned is a lot better than being fired. and dumba$$ is spelt this way, idiot.

Anonymous said...

Hudson and Wells forced Ernie to resign. He accidentally hit his drama queen wife in the head when he jerked his phone away from her, that is HARDLY spousal abuse. THAT is why the grand jury no billed it. Get all the info before you run your mouth.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Ernie's wife sobered up and decided she was just as much blame as he! Maybe sober she realized she was at fault. Who knows? It is their marriage, in their home, and quite frankly, THEIR BUSINESS!

Anonymous said...

I really don't care if he hit, beat, slapped, or whatever. You can't blame Hudson or Wells for him resigning, he did this to keep his career, because if he was fired he could not be a police officer. oh and come on I don't think she was the only one that needed to sober up that night. and besides it wasn't the first time.

Anonymous said...

By the looks of these comments I really don't think any of you should enter a spelling contest.

Editor Publisher said...

Trading insults treads heavily on the comment guidelines when some "colorful euphemisms" are used instead of profanity. We're mostly adults here, and being civil isn't a requirement - just keep it "clean".

"Spelt" isn't a word. "Dumb ass" is two words. And "idiot" could apply to multiple posters named "anonymous".

Anonymous said...

I would venture to guess that the one Blogging about ET sure has a lot of inside information
.......mmmmmm could it be a tender subject for the police officer that found he didn't meet his "higher standards"? Keep up the blogging and you are going to give away ALL of the confidential investigation information. How do you have so much information on this issue? How do you know this was not the first time? Have you ever had a disagreement with your spouse? How did you handle it? Kiss her on the cheek and say thanks babe, you're right. ALL MARRIED PEOPLE HAVE DISAGREEMENTS, ALL!!!!!! Some just get drunk and have them. Some enjoy getting drunk having fights and making up! Chase each other around the room, etc. Live and let live!
People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!
I guess I am just like everyone else, I have my own opinion.

Anonymous said...

I think this postcard comment section went downhill. I think it went from a blog site to a chat line.
By the way, if you can spell "spelt" instead of spelled, and you can spell spouce "spouse" then I can spell anonymous any way I damn well please!
IDIOT! RIGHT BACK AT YA!

That's Mrs. Terry to you!!! said...

Hello everyone...This is the "drama queen". Just so you know...Ernie will be just fine without Wilmer. Regardless of what you have read or heard, Ernie was a GREAT officer and an asset to the Police Department. But now he will be a great officer to another department. Thanks to those who have supported him through all of this. You know who you are! And to those who didn't...WHO CARES! We don't. NO ONE knows what happened but Ernie and I, so you all have NOTHING to talk about. Get over it...he is moving on and really...you should also. Honestly, this is a blessing for our family. We want to wish everyone good luck that work for the city. It's not a easy place to work with all the political B.S. that goes on there and the not-so great pay. Hang in there...if you can. If not, just kiss the right ass and your job is secure. (No offense Chief!) Have a wonderful, wonderful day. I know we will!!!!! =)

How come no one mentioned the illegal polygraph test that Hudson made Wells give ET? It is my understanding that this was so completely illegal that it boggles the mind? It is true that ET was forced to resign. Under the pressure of this corrupted government he never would have had a fair hearing. He knew that as did his attorney.
To Mr & Mrs Terry: I wish you all the best and will keep both of you in my prayers. Everything positive that was said regarding Ernie were on point and the truth. Those that tried to place the blame anywhere except on Hudson and Wells, must be family members or supporters. Anyone that had met this man (ET) knew just where his heart was. It was in serving the citizens of Wilmer and nothing less. This man has given of his time and money to citizens that were in need. Money or help did not seem to matter to him. My husband had the pleasure of helping this fine man install an air condinting unit for a citizen in need. He bought it, he paid other bills and did so without asking for anything in return. Ernie I hope that you know who this is! God Bless you and your wife as you enter a new phase and one that does not include Wilmer.
You will always have a special place in my heart for your professionalsim (maybe miss-spelled) and giving to others. I just wish that those in office had the balls to right a horrible wrong that they have done to you. But, I know, as your wife put it better than I, YOU ARE BETTER OFF WITHOUT WILMER, BUT WILMER WILL NEVER BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT YOU.

Anonymous said...

To "Thats Mrs. Ernie Terry to you" You are so right. You are to be commended for your blogging thoughts, apparently, ET got the right woman this time. I wish you both the best and I guess Wilmer just isn't it. Although, not my business, this thing will burn in my memory for a long time. ET was one of mine and my families favorite popo's. Good luck and may God bless you both. Always remember when one door is closed two more will open. Keep your chin up!

Anonymous said...

To the Terry family...I am very glad to see that you are approaching this positively. You will be better off without Wilmer, I am. I know both of you very well, have for a long time, and you are still two of the greatest people I have met in Wilmer, and outside of Wilmer. I know you have been through alot, and I will continue to stand behind both of you. Be well both of you and remember that you have plenty of support and friends.

Maybe there's a position open for Ernie in Palmer? Wouldn't that be ironic? Hudson has no political pull there! Oh, wait, he doesn't live there...
Good luck to you in all your ventures, Ernie!
